Kauai by sea
Kauai by sea
Roger recommended that we take a boat trip up the NaPali, to get a good view of the rugged coastline. This is a roadless area that is largely inaccessible, except by boat or by hiking trail.
Our boat, called the NaPali Kai
Along the coastline, an abandoned sugarcane factory. Sugarcane production has mostly disappeared on Kauai, so there are many abandoned fields and factories where sugarcane was farmed and processed.
Calm waters on the way out, with opportunities to see spinner dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, sea turtles, flying fish, and a variety of birds. (Towards the end of our trip, we *may* have seen a whale.)

Calm seas on the way out. We motored along the coast, nosing up to sea caves.
The water was an unreal turquoise color as we got close to shore.
A bit rougher and more exciting on the way home, but we made it back in one piece and had a fabulous time. What a gorgeous place!
