Nearly 2 acres of my 3 acre homesite is listed as part of PBRS — Public Benefit Rating System. PBRS allows a landowner to claim a tax reduction based on keeping the land undeveloped. PBRS credit stays with the property, providing a lasting benefit.

Part of my goal for my property is to return it to a more natural state. Currently the property is overrun with an assortment of non-native invasive plants, especially Himalayan blackberry and reed canary grass. Over the last few years, I’ve been attempting to clear out these non-natives and replace them with native plants. This year, with the assistance of the King Conservation District and King County’s Forestry Division, I developed a Forest Plan and submitted an application for cost-share funding. With the receipt of this funding, I hope to make a major dent in the invasives and take the first step towards a healthier mini-ecosystem!
