Canoeing, Hiking, and Biking

Next:

Canoeing Mission Creek, off the end of Scott and Terry’s property, less than a half mile from their house. A warm sunny day with no wind and spectacular fall color.

Hauling the canoe back up from the creek onto the trail.

Biking in the Chengwatana State Park

Biking along the Kettle River

Hiking Minnesota Point near Duluth

Lake Superior: looks like the ocean, but no salt smell, no tides, no whales, and no sharks ....

.... but plenty of seagulls

Hiking along the Superior Hiking Trail

(the entire trail is almost 300 miles)

Split Rock Trail section

Gitchi-Gami section (early morning)

Approaching Lake Superior at dusk

Hence the name “split rock”

Elys Peak section

Another beautiful day ... a mature hardwood forest of birch, aspen, maple, and basswood

My new favorite plant: sumac

Hiking along a rocky ridge with views of the St Louis river, Lake Superior, and the colorful countryside.

To fuel our adventures, Terry has been cooking some delicious meals, from chili to lasagna, with homemade deserts of pumpkin bars and pudding. YUM!! Most traditional was pasties, meat pies made from scratch.

Enjoying our meal of pasties and each others’ good company.
